Chapter 02: Index of Ash
The keeper follows a map written by a machine that denies having made it.
By morning the gate was only a rectangle of colder air.
The keeper copied the map three times. One copy was sealed in the public archive, one was burned according to protocol, and one was folded into the pocket of her coat. The machine insisted it had produced nothing. Its screen remained empty except for a single line of diagnostic text.
There is no error in an unwritten world.
